A Step-by-Step Guide: Setting Up ABC Data and Teams in myABAKiS
Accurate data is the cornerstone of effective Applied Behavior Analysis. For a growing clinic, this means not only tracking behaviors but also understanding their function through the Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence (ABC) model. However, ensuring every therapist on your team collects this data consistently can be a major challenge. Furthermore, getting your team set up and working collaboratively in a new system needs to be fast and painless.
In this tutorial, inspired by our video guide, we’ll show you how myABAKiS makes it incredibly simple to build your ABC data framework and invite your team members, so you can get back to focusing on client progress.
Part 1: Creating Your Antecedent & Consequence Lists
Before you can track ABC data, you need a standardized list of antecedents and consequences for your team to choose from. This ensures everyone is using the same terminology.
Step 1: Navigate to the Behavior Section. From the main dashboard, click the green clipboard icon on the left-hand menu to go to your Behaviors list.
Step 2: Open Settings. At the top of the Behaviors screen, click the Settings tab (indicated by the wrench and screwdriver icon). This is where you will manage the lists for your entire clinic.
Step 3: Add Your Antecedents and Consequences. You will see two columns. Simply type in the common antecedents (e.g., “Loud Sounds,” “Schedule Change”) and consequences (e.g., “Redirect,” “Loss of Privelege”) that your team uses and click the plus button to add them to the list. You can add as many as you need at any time.
Part 2: Applying ABC Data & Setting Efficient Defaults
With your lists created, you can now apply this data to any observation. To save your team valuable time during sessions, you can even set a default consequence for a specific behavior.
Step 1: Edit an Observation. Go back to your Behaviors list, click on a behavior name (e.g., “Hands on ears”) to see its history, and click the blue pencil icon to edit an existing observation.
Step 2: Select from the Dropdown Menus. The antecedents and consequences you just created will now appear in dropdown menus for each observation. Simply select the appropriate ones for that instance.
Step 3 (The Time-Saver!): Set a Default. If a behavior almost always results in the same consequence, navigate to that behavior’s Info tab and click the “Edit” button. You can select a default consequence from the dropdown menu and click “Save”.
Step 4: See it in Action. Now, when you add a new observation for that behavior, the default consequence will be automatically selected, saving your therapist a click and ensuring consistency.
Part 3: Inviting Your Team in Seconds
myABAKiS is designed for collaboration. Our simple pricing includes unlimited users, so you can get your whole team on board without worrying about extra fees.
Step 1: Go to Team Management. Click the red team icon on the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Add Team Member Details. Click the plus icon, type in your team member’s email address, and select their role. For your Behaviour Interventionists or RBTs, the “Interventionist” role is the recommended choice.
Step 3: Send the Invite. Click “OK” to send the email invitation. The team member’s status will show as “Pending” until they accept the invite from their email. That’s it! Repeat for your entire team.
Conclusion
In just a few minutes, you have built a standardized framework for ABC data collection ABA and provided access to your entire staff. This is the power of a platform designed as an ABA team collaboration software from the ground up. By simplifying these foundational steps, myABAKiS empowers you to improve data fidelity, streamline workflows, and foster better BCBA-to-RBT communication tools for your practice.
